Recycling of iron-rich sediment for surface modification of filters for underground water deironing

Groundwater is one of the cleanest natural sources drinking water available, which, at same time, often requires deironing – removal dissolved iron ions before could be used. In this paper, there are describe preparation, characterization, and properties surface-modified refractory chamotte granules, used as active components fillers for filters. For research, surface modification was made by solution combustion synthesis (SCS) approach an aqueous synthetic nitrate citric acid with different iron-to-chamotte ratios. An iron-rich precipitate from filters a source preparation precursor solution. Obtained materials were characterized using diffraction, spectroscopic microscopic methods. The SCS resulted in formation layers hematite Fe 3 O 4 nanocrystallites ~5–15 nm on granules. It shown effect dose absorbed oxide species content modified granules its influence operational characteristics. Pilot-plant tests showed that increase concentration 5.8 wt% unmodified samples, to 19.0, 48.7, 55.8 ones, led respective efficiency 41% 65%, 73% 78%, respectively. • Solution proposed modification.
